To connect a computer to the local network in the Canon building (and to the Internet) it is necessary to register it first with the administrators (see Contacts). To speed up the registration, please get ready to provide the following information before you ask for the registration:

  • Computer type.
    Is your computer desktop or notebook?
  • Name for the computer.
    Choose a decent name that is preferably short and easy to remember and that is not already used for a computer in the Institute network. Using girl's names is preferred by the Institute network administrators.
  • Connection type.
    Do you want to connect using wired or wireless network?
  • Network card address (MAC address).
    See this help page to get some hints. Do not forget that every network card has its own MAC address so for wired and wireless connections you need two addresses. Ask for help if you have troubles.
  • Operating system.
    Linux, Windows, MAC OS, ...
